Freezing Problems!

My computer randomly freezes when i use it, this occurs atleast once every
session. There isnt any pattern in relation to when or what i am doing when
it freezes, its just random (sometimes on stand-by, asometimes when i am
actively using). I dont know where to start with this problem, i am confident
it isnt virus related, because i did a complete deletion and re-install of
everything on my PC and the problem occured on the first session after,
before i had even re-installed internet. Any suggestions (drivers?,
processor?, anything?) that i could investigate would be appriciated.

I am having similar problem now on 3 different PCs under differing
situations.

1) my pc at home: after periods of rest of 2 hours to overnight, mouse may
still move, even click. Things like Start menu with sub-menus will open up,
but NO programs will begin. CAD doesn't work either, so can't see list of
what is running, or if someone is hogging. RESET button always fixes
it.Happens daily.

2) My husbands PC at home is like the previous poster, Liam's, problem. Just
freezes when it feels like it, and not very often. Have to reset there to...

3) Hubbies PC at work mouse freezes up and can't click anything. Simply pull
mouse plug and replug and it works again, for awhile.

All are around 5 years old, well maintained, disks cleaned up, temp files
under control, runningXP with up to date virus/spyware software and patches
that have worked for years. 2 are on cable, one is dial-up.

Something in one of the latest XP patches maybe? Are there any rumors of
such problems about with XP Home?
