My Windows XP freezes and the Windows Task Manager shows 100% Usage (Thus
the Freezing). I only am using Internet Explorer at the time? Is there any
reason for this? And how can I repair this?
Thanks

Are you running an antivirus program such as Norton in background? Also,
click start > run > type in: msconfig > go to startup tab, uncheck any
unncessary programs that might be starting up with system and running in the
background.

Also empty your temporary internet folder and temp folder.

Run a scan with one of the following:
Ad-Aware - www.lavasoftusa.com
Spybot - http://www.safer-networking.org/
CWShredder - http://forum.aumha.org/downloads/cwshredder.zip
Spy Sweeper - www.webroot.com

In Task Manager, what process shows as using the CPU? (other than system
idle - the task run when there is nothing whatever to do)

As Alex points out, when this is happening if you open task manager
(ctrl alt del together) and look on the processes tab there are a list
of running processes and if you look under cpu you'll find the one
running high (except system idle, which is the one that should be
high) , then it's a matter of deciding if you can repair. You may need
to consider things you've installed previously... did you install
something just before this started happening?
