Freeze-up on Bootup!

I'm running Windows XP. Bootup time on my computer is
approximately 40 seconds, at which time, when the
hourglass disappears and I attempt to connect to the
internet (DSL), everything freezes. Apparently there is
additional bootup activity going on for another 2 minutes
(I can hear "booting noises" emanating from my CPU), and
then finally the indicator light on my floppy drive
illuminates for a second or so, and then everything is
ready to roll. What the hell is up with that?

DO NOT REBOOT....INSTEAD, SHUT DOWN COMPLETELY....TURN
YOUR PUTER OFF...WAIT 30 SECONDS.....TURN ON YOUR PUTER,
WAIT UNTIL "ALL" ITEMS ON YOUR MONITOR HAVE FINISHED
LOADING, THEN WAIT 10 MORE SECONDS.....NOW YOU SHOULD BE
ABLE TO USE YOUR PUTER....THIS WORKS FOR ME 99% OF THE
TIME....BUT KNOWING XP....1% OF THE TIME IT WON'T WORK!
Hang in there.....hope for improvement is on the
way....some day....Microsoft needs to do more quality,
quality control....(better inspection and editing)

Pauses of exactly 2 minutes are usually service deadlocks and are usually
caused by altering the startup types of services.

Have you been doing any of that?
