Freeze on start up

My HP laptop freezes on the xp screen during startup.
I've tried rebooting, safe-mode etc. and nothing seems to
work. Did I get a bug or virus? Do I have to recover the
whole hard drive? Any help or suggestions will be
appreciated?

Hello!
Start with XP original bootable CD with 1st boot
preference as CD-ROM. Now proceed with on screen
instructions andopt for "Repair" XP.
Hope it will fix.
