freeze during scandisk and defrag help!!!!

HI every time i try to defrag and scandisk it freezes. I
have to turn the computer off. I do close all programs to
I have also tried norton defrag and it freezes too. oh and
i have xp
 
you might follow this - ie
defragmentation needs 15% free space to run and it is
good idea to get in habit of 'routine of running'
first chkdsk.exe/checkdisk/
note - scandisk is no longer incl/or/supported
then defrag
then delete temp files and cookies
and should keep your disk clean and org'd
and take it fr there
