Freeze at welcome....

Hello all, I installed Vista Home Premium last night and I'm having a few
issues. These issues started when I restarted my computer, after I updated.
First off the screen would not load past the green bar, which I managed to
fix by running a mem diagnostic, after which I get to the welcome screen and
at first it would freeze after displaying the text enter for my password, so
I went into safe mode and removed my password, so now it just gets to Welcome
and the circle lights up twice and then freezes.

Any help would be appreciated, as this was an xp upgrade so I really don't
want to install twice to try and fix it and the same thing happen.

My comp is an AMD x2 3800, with a 250 gig hd and 1 gig of ram, with a radeon
x800 vid card.

How did you fix this with the memory diagnostic tool? Did it show errors?
Did you swap out memory?
