Freeware Search program in "Common Tasks" pane ??

D

Delawaredave

Lookiing for a little utility to quickly search for a string in a
filename for files within the current directory.

Ideally some kind of search window always resident in border of window
- or in the "Common Tasks" pane on left of window.

Today I have to use "Ctrl-F" in windows - bring up search - takes too
long to search and searches all folders underneath starting point.

Thanks for your help ! delawaredave

I use Agent Ransack for this. You can download it from

Thanks. I was looking for a small "always running" little utility
that runs all the time and has an "always there" search box in the
directory window.

Doesn't look like Agnet Ransak does this ?

thank.

Here is my info, links are like us, they die. If any of these links are
dead or are no longer freeware, at least you have the name of the
program which you put into a search engine like Google & maybe you can
let me know the latest info.
I am not recommending anything, my list gives you a starting point to
find something to suit your operating system ( most people do not even
mention it ) & skill level. What will work on my computer, may not be
happy on yours. What I can understand, re how to install & run, may not
apply to you.

That's right, but it integrates in the context menu. When right-clicking
a directory you can select the Agent Ransack entry to search that
directory.

I installed Ransack - but don't see any right mouse click menus -
something I need to configure ? Thanks.

Not that I know of. The context menu entry was added during install but
I don't remember if I had to select some option.
