Hmm... I wasn't exactly looking for replies relating to my parentage. :/

The idea was to prompt others to post their own "always running" freeware
.... perhaps to find something else to add to my "portfolio".

So ... for the not-so-cynical, what freeware are YOU running, RIGHT NOW?

Dszady ... to give due credit, nice page of astronomical type info.

Sorry.
Thanks for the Astro page compliment.
Everything on my computer is free. Including computer.
I'm a poor bastard. A confession to my economics and parentage.
:)
Oh. Right now: Pan; Firefox and a squirrel running the power supply.
Actually, I thought yours was a solitary post until I read down. May the
flames of hell warm my cold, cold heart.

You don't need *additional* utilities running, but a means to forgo
some of the ones always-on, already.

40tude Dialog and KMeleon. And there are *no other* programs or utilities
running (free or not). I even switched most system processes off, because
they were not needed in an always on state.

And of course neither KMeleon nor Dialog are *always on* tools. ;-)

You seem to be running an original version of Xnews. Could you
please tell us where you found it ?

Thanks

Ava Find looks interesting but isn't it shareware?

Here's a link to Firefox Preloader, which I'm guessing does the same
thing.

https://sourceforge.net/projects/ffpreloader/

Thanks, I'll try it. I already recently added this
/prefetch:1
to my FF shortcut, i.e. making it
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" /prefetch:1
but I wonder if that Firefox Preloader makes some further improvement?
Without instability, that is!
