Greetings.

Is there a freeware / open source M$ Publisher clone that allows me to
create, open and edit .pub files?

Thank you.

Take care.

It doesn't look to me like anyone supports PUB files except MS. If you
could get MSPublisher to write it to another format, maybe you could
use OpenOffice to import it into it's Write application.

Here are the formats OOo supports.

I agree with Clif.

If you can convert your .pub files to another format, you have options.
I'd recommend taking a look at Scribus (www.scribus.net). It is a
full-featured, cross-platform desktop publisher.

Interesting this came up at this time. Friday, the admin at our church
sent out a message to us in .pub format, completely unaware that NOTHING
opens these files but MS Publisher. One of the MANY drawbacks of that
is that Publisher is not included in every version of MS Office.

I e-mailed her back and told her our quandry and also gave her a link
with detailed instructions on how to convert them to html or pdf.

I told her (politely) that if she was going to use Publisher to create
church documents for PRINTING, that was fine, but if she was going to
electronically distribute them, they needed to be exported to another
format.

She completely agreed and now sends out the docs in pdf format :).

Standard formats are nice :)
