Is there such a thing? Or something similar?

There are freeware electronics kit simulators - with batteries, lights,
leds, switches, etc. And there are freeware "lego-type" proggies.

How about something for mechanical parts?

The Problem is not that there are problems.
The problem is expecting otherwise and
thinking that having a problem is a problem.

This'd be in the "something similar" category. I suspect it's useless for
your purposes, but is fun anyway:
BlockCAD is a tool for playing with lego without having to pay for it or
clear up afterwards. Build your virtual models save them print them etc.
Also AnkerCAD which is the same thing but with "AnkerSteine" - a sort of
more architectural lego.
