Freeware for NTP time synchronization under Windows?

Clinging to sanity, David Woolley mumbled in his beard:

Moreover, if you are using ADSL or cable ("always on") services, the
only reason that your IP address might change is because your ISP has
deliberately broken DHCP for commercial reasons (to allow them to
charge more to let you run servers). For always on systems, DHCP
should renew your leases so that the address never changes, and should
reserve it across reasonable amounts of disconnected time.

For the majority of ADSL users in big parts of Europe, DHCP is not
involved at all. The dynamic IP is managed by PPPoE, which apparently
doesn't remember client IPs the way dhcpd does by default.

The few people I know where dhcp is involved usually *do* have
semi-static IP addresses, which would support my thesis that it's just
different default behaviour of different systems rather than malice on
the part of the ISPs.

Hello people.

I am looking for a freeware Windows program to synchronize PC' clock
over the Internet, using the NTP (Network Time Protocol) protocol

Q: Do you know of any good program for time synchronization using the
NTP protocol? I'd like to synchronize time, say, once I day.

[]s

Neutron

Overview :

Neutron is a very simple and small time synchronizing program that
retrieves the accurate time from one of several specialized time servers
on the Internet.
....

The setup options allows you to choose the time server that is used by
selecting from a preset list in the dropdown list.
....

Kind regards,

That's why I prefer Automachron. You can type in any server you want. I
have a strata 3 server running locally and all my windows computers get
their time from it.

Cheers,

None of the others have a good "silent mode" like Automachron. That's my
favorite feature. I like the log file too.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Automachron is working perfectly.

Hello people.

I am looking for a freeware Windows program to synchronize PC' clock over the
Internet, using the NTP (Network Time Protocol) protocol

I suggest the Tardis server, works with Linux & wimpdoze clients, which many of
the wimpdoze programs would not work with my Linux (Knoppix) based PC's.

I have it running on an old 486 stuck in a closet.

Well, I'll chime in with my NTPTime client:

http://home.att.net/~Tom.Horsley/ntptime.html

I've found NTPtime better than all the other SNTP/TIME clients
mentioned in this thread because it:
- uses SNTP for better accuracy than the TIME protocol;
- retries by walking down a list of servers, instead of hanging on a
single server which is down, or giving up and not syncing at all;
- cycles thru a settable number of dated logs and deletes the old
ones, automating log management;
- can be configured to run once on dialup, or at intervals over cable;
- configuration control panel is a separate program;
- systray utility is a separate optional program, but gives you
control over itself, the SNTP client program, access to the
configuration control panel, and viewing the log files.
You might say I like it!
