Thank you, but I think it's not freeware (and I didn't find a "lite"
version).

You don't need to pay for it if you don't mind an innocuous ad.

Most browser projects are Mozilla based. THose that aren't either IE or
Moz have issues with alot of sites.

Then it's adware, not freeware.

But I should add that the program has been recommended in this group
for a long time, regardless of the fact that it's adware. Personally,
I refuse to try it because of the ad(s). YMMV.

Because software authors shouldn't earn money? :)
Adware is IMO only bad if it's bad... If you know what I mean..

Still, it'd be nice if they offered a time limited evaluation
version, so that one could asses its' merits regarding the money
without the ad interface.

If you select Google Ads, the ad is a thin two line bar right across
the browser that does not get in the way.

Because he prefers freeware, and that is the charter of the
group....
Yet people are quite happy to mention:

AVG 6
Kerio Personal Firewall

without being lambasted..both of which are actually CRIPPLEWARE and
therefore not freeware in the true sense.

What's crippled about AVG6?

You are quite misinformed. Please explain how either of these programs are
crippleware.

What's crippled about AVG6?
From their site...

Basic user Interface only
Disabled Advanced Scheduling of Tests
Disabled Creating of Your Own Tests

Now compare that to stuff such as Mozilla where you get full
functionality.

From the software makers websites...

What you don't get in AVG 6...
http://www.grisoft.com/us/us_dwnl_free.php

Basic user Interface only
Disabled Advanced Scheduling of Tests
Disabled Creating of Your Own Tests

What you don't get in Kerio after the 30 day trial ends...

CONTENT FILTERING
Control of private information sent to the Internet
Script blocking (JavaScript, VB script)
Referrer and Cookies blocking
Ad blocking
Pop-up windows blocking

STATISTICS, LOGGING
Syslog
Runs as Internet Gateway

ADMINISTRATION
Remote administration
Password protected configuration

....so like I said..CRIPPLEWARE.

If you're not on somebody's shit list, you're not doing anything
worthwhile.

Both of which JC himself says he uses IIRC.

No, because adware is NOT freeware. Period. What the problem with
that? It's JMHO. 80)>

THe point of the argument is that the netkops on here are quoting the
freeware charter whilst themselves being hypocrites by recommending
crippleware.
