Free Virtual Memory - Problem

Hi,

I wasn't sure which forum was more suitable for this post, therefore I
posted it in the Games forum as well.

I have a dual boot configuration, W2K and WXP, my RAM is 1GB.
I use W2K for educative games for my children, generally I do not have any
issue but today I tried one from Disney and gave me the following message.

"This program requires at least 3MB of free virtual memory to run"

I looked at the settings of the Initial Size and Max Size and those are the
typical managed by the system.

I'd like to know what customized values should I set in order to let the
program work.
Also, what are the possible consequences on the system by changing the
default values?

Thanks for your help
Alex

If the game was made with an early version of Macromedia Director then
you may have too much virtual memory - it may be assuming that the VM is
always reported in MB while your computer is telling it some number of
GB. You could try reducing the page file size to less than 1GB if that
looks like that could be the case.

Contact the game developer. ie see what the FAQ or Support folks for the
game have to say. 3 MB is hardly anything as far as HD/virtual memory.
If anything your "default" virtual memory is overkill as it would be a
gig and a half. If you want to "fiddle" with it cut it down to under a
gig and see if the game quits choking. This may be similar to the old
games not loading(not enough drive space error) because they weren't
programed to recognize 2+ gig drive space correctly.
