free space of hard disk

Why is it that the free space of my hard disk is
constantly changing even if I'm not doing anything? I just
turn my computer on, check the free space of hard disk,
turn it off, and when I turn it on again the free space of
the hard disk changes. Sometimes it goes up (more space)
and sometimes it goes down (less space). And the
difference of changes varies from 30 KB to 12 MB. Please
enlighten me about this thing. Thanks!

Windows uses your hard drive like RAM in varying amounts
depending on whats going on in your system at the time.
Thats why they say you should always have at least 500MB
of free space on your hard drive at all times.
