Free News Servers - do they exist?

Karen

I just spent what seems like hours looking for FREE news servers where we
can read *and post*. There don't seem to be any. The ones that advertise
as free want to charge you $19.00 a month or more once on their website.
Can anyone recommend a good free News Server that can be posted to?????

Thanks :)

Register to get your details - takes a couple of days, esp at the
weekend as it is not automated.
Been using this for a few years now - an excellent service.

"Registration and use of this NetNews service are free of charge. This
server is operated by the computer center of Freie Universität Berlin,
Germany."
It is my backup server and a lot of people use it for primary. You have to
register with a "real" email address to get your username and password.
You might have to wait a couple of days for it but it is worth it.

Takes a little more than a couple of days. I emailed my request back on the
14th of April and finally got my response on 23rd of April. So I would say a
week to ten days is more like it.
(The reason given is that all request are being handled manually). But as
stated, it is worth the wait. :)

This is what I use - and I'm posting to you! Took about a week for them to
get back to me after I signed up. It's free.

I'll sign up for this one as well. I need them more for back-ups when our
regular ISP supplied server is down, than as primaries.

I hope they allow "tweaking" of our e-mail address when we post, as one we
had in the past did not. We were soon smothering in spam.

Don't bother, it is the same as the other.

Karen, they allow you to use (e-mail address removed) as your e-mail address. Check
out the FAQ, that's where I learned about it.
