Free\Busy Info

D

Dan Johnson

Hi,

I am working with a user from my company who has the
Outlook 2003 client installed on his machine, and it is
publishing his calendar's free\busy data. The problem is
that some users can see his free\busy data, but others
can't. Outlook 2003 is also being run on all of the
user's systems who are trying to view his data. I am one
of the users who cannot see his free\busy info, but I can
see other user's info just fine. I have been through all
of the client settings that I know of, and I have matched
them against other Outlook 2003 client which I know can
see his data, and I could not find any differences. I
have also tried opening outlook from the run field using
the following switches:

/cleanfreebusy
/cleanschedplus

Unfortunately neither switch helped the issue.

I would appreciate any suggestions you may have to
correct this problem.

Thanks,

Dan Johnson

Are your Outlook clients connect to Exchange? If so, are all of these people
you are talking about below on the same Exchange Server? When you try to
view his free/busy information, what happens?

D

Dan Johnson

Yes, all of the Outlook Clients are connected to
Exchange, and all of the users are connected to the same
exchange server. When I try to view this users free\busy
info all I see are the markings for "no information
available". I also tried connecting to 4 other users
(all using the same Outlook client, and all connected to
the same exchange server as myself), and I do not have a
problem viewing any of their free\busy data.

I know his info is publishing, because other people can
see it. Any idea why I can't see his free busy info?

To Clarify, you can see everyone's free/busy information from your Outlook
Client except one person's? Is this user on a different mailbox store then
you are? Can anyone view this person's Free/Busy information?

D

Dan Johnson

No,

This user is not on a different mailbox store then I am.

Yes,

I have been able to view everyone elses free\busy info
except for this user (I tried appoximately 10 others -
also on the same mailbox store as myself)

Yes,

There are alot of people who can view his free\busy data,
but the strange thing is that some people can't
(including myself), and everybody is using the same
mailbox store... very weird?????

What do you have configured for your Free/Busy Options in Outlook? Have you
ever been able to view this users free/busy information? If so, has anything
changed since you last have this ability?

D

Dan Johnson

No,

I have never been able to view this users free busy info

My free\busy options are set to defaults, but I would
think that its is the other users free\busy settings that
would be in question. His are setup identical to my own,
and my free\busy info is published without an issue (our
free busy info is set to show 2 months worth of calendar
time, and is set to update the server every 15 minutes)

Dan,

Surprisingly you F/B settings impact how much information you will see on
another person's calendar, for example, you have 2 months published, you
will see only 2 months of that person's calendar regardless if they have 12
months published. Anyway that is just a side note.

Facts:
1. All users in question running same version of Outlook 2003
2. All users mailboxes reside on the same MB Store
3. Some people can view John's F/B information, some cannot
4. The users who CAN see JOhn's F/B information can see everyone else's F/B

Questions:
1. Any users in question running in Cached Mode?
2. When John looks at other calendars, what does he see?

Dan Johnson

Megan,

First I want to thank you for the time you have spent on
this call so far; it's appreciated.

Now to answer you last 2 questions; to your "cached mode"
question the answer is yes, I do have cached mode set on
my machine. I'm not sure about the other machines yet,
but I would guess yes as cached mode seems to be on by
default.

Mike is actually the users name who is in question, and I
have not, at this point, checked to see if he can see
other users info. I will check this out for you.

D

Dan Johnson

Megan,

I just disabled "cached mode", closed then re-opened
Outlook, but this did not help the issue.

Dan,

Good to hear from you. First of all I want to apologize for some
mis-information that I posted earlier. When you view someone else's calendar
you have the ability to view however much Free/Busy information THEY have
published, not what you have publicshed. The only time YOUR F/B settings
come into play is if you have permission to make a change on someone elses
calendar, and your FB is set to 4 months, when the Free/Busy map is rebuilt
after you make the change, only 4 months will be published regardless of
what the other user has set. Anyway, this was a side note as it obviously
has nothing to do w/ the problem here.

Have you checked to see if Mike can see the Free/Busy information for other
users?

D

Dan Johnson

Megan,

No, I haven't been able to confirm that the user is able
to see other users free\busy info yet; this user is
senior manager, and I normally deal with his admin
assistant who will not be back in the office until
tomorrow. I will try to get the answer for you tomorrow
morning.

Megan,

Sorry for the delay on this, but the user in question is able to see other
user's free\busy data.

What's next?

Megan Kielman

Hey Dan!

Here we go:

Facts:
1. All users in question running same version of Outlook 2003 not in cached
mode
2. All users mailboxes reside on the same MB Store
3. Some people can view Mike's F/B information, some cannot
4. The users who CAN see Mike's F/B information can see everyone else's F/B
5. Mike can see everyone's F/B information
6. The Users who CANNOT see Mike's F/B Info CAN see other's F/B information

Questions
1. Not sure if you did this (you mentioned it earlier) but have your run
/cleanfreebusy or /cleanschedplus from Mike's machine?

Hi Megan,

Hope you had a nice weekend. /cleanfreebusy and /cleanschedplus have been
run on Mikes Outlook client to no avail.

What's next?

Hi Megan,

Are you still working on this call? The reason I ask is that I posted a
reply on 10/18, and haven't heard back from you or anybody else through today
10/25.
