John many folks use & swear by Cd Burner XP Pro. Used it for a long
time & its easy to use & no real problems http://www.cdburnerxp.se/
I'll second Gimpy on that. Although I've read of a few problems posted
here, I haven't experienced any on Win2k sp4 rollup and XP sp2 systems.
Fwiw, you may want to do a search on this proggy in the acf newsgroup.
There've been a few very recent threads on this product.

Yes from the first page of the www.cdburnerxp.se site:

Note that this is an incomplete version which still has some bugs. All those
who have problems with our current version or those who are interested in
the development of CDBXPP can consider downloading this version. If you want
a stable version, wait for our final version instead (even though that this
version turned out to be quite good for daily usage for me). Note that the
..NET Framework or our runtimes are required to use this version.

http://cdburnerxp.se/help/install-without-dotnet

This guide explains how to setup CDBurnerXP (? version 3.5) if you can't or
don't want to install the .NET Framework (for whatever reason).

Works fine for CDs on my system, but for some reason I have not been
able to burn DVDs with this program. It just "finishes" immediately when
I tell it to burn, and tells me that the writing was successful. I have
a NEC 3540A.

Deepburner works fine, though.

I'm with you now. I do recall there's a way to avoid .Net.
But their main page does also say that v3.5 is still beta, so it needs
to be seen borne in mind.

Sure. But it makes me none the wiser regarding _what_ causes problems.
For instance, did any of those 28.5% try to burn DVDs?
