freaky IE auto complete behavior

I just answered a call with a frustrated website user who was trying to type in address info in a form element whose HTML text input name was "address1". Whenever they would start to type, it would drop down a list of addresses to choose from, and he was only allowed to choose one of those (not continue typing whatever he wanted). After I guided him over the phone to IE 6's Auto-Complete section and had him Clear Forms and uncheck it for Forms, he returned to the page with the form and tried to type into that address box. It would drop down an empty list, and not allow him to type anything into the text input! Moreover, he was allowed to type just fine into other text inputs on the page. I was unable to reproduce the same behavior in my browser after turning Auto Complete on. Any ideas on what in the world is going on here??? We have 1000s of users and I've never heard of this before!

Then you've not been keeping up with the hijackware epidemic:

Important: You *must* seek updates for Ad-Aware, Spybot, etc., before each
and every use, even "right out of the box". But even they can't catch
everything, 24/7. When all else fails, HijackThis
(http://www.merijn.org/files/hijackthis.zip) is the preferred tool to use.
It will help you to both identify and remove any hijackware/spyware. **Post
your files to http://forums.spywareinfo.com/ or the HijackThis Logs forum at
http://forum.aumha.org/ for expert analysis, not here.**

Also update your virus definitions and then run a full system scan. From
now on, do both daily.

[Many anti-spyware sites continue to suffer from a week-long DoS attack.
Alternative download pages for Ad-Aware, Spybot, HijackThis and CWShredder
may be found on this page: http://aumha.org/a/parasite.htm.]
