FP2003 Forms Question

G

Guest

I am creating a questionnaire for a friend's website, and am using FP2003...
her provider doesn't support FP file extensions...How can we get her visitors
to submit the form and after submitting the form go to a "thank you" page? I
haven been to Bravenet and experiemented but unfortunately not all of the
entries are received... any ideas how we can do this for her?

Check with the host to see what Form Handler script they provide or support.

What do you mean by a form handler?

A Form Handler is a server-side script the processes the data input from a form, and either send it
to an email address or to a database, etc.

There are two basic ways to process form data -

1. Use mailto:[email protected] as the action of the form
2. Use a server-side scripting method to a) harvest the form's data, b)
process it in some manner, e.g., enter it into a database, c) formulate and
send an email to one or more email recipients, and d) redirect the visitor
to some ending page

Method 1 is quite simple, and is also the least reliable. It depends both
on your visitor having an email client already installed on their computer -
this eliminates public computers - and on that email client responding to
the mailto call (Eudora on the Mac is a good example of one that does not).

Method 2 is the preferred method, since it eliminates the problems of method
1, but it means that you have to grapple with server-scripting somehow (ASP,
CF, PHP, perl, etc.).

Examples of standard scripts provided by hosts for processing form data have
already been posted. I would only add another called Formmail as modified
by NMS, hence NMS-Formmail. It runs on Windows servers and is pretty simple
to set up.

Nevertheless, the question you need to ask your host is "What do you provide
for processing forms and emailing the data?"....

thanks for the info... especially the very last sentence: "What do you provide
for processing forms and emailing the data?".... I've sent them an email,
I don't know if they will respond or not...

If it's one of Bravenet's free webs ... you don't get very much at all.
So, it's worth every penny paid? :)

| If they don't respond, then I'd change hosts. This is what you pay them
| for....

It requires that the form be hosted on formbreeze system, not the actual
website.

| Hi,

| I'd recommend that you take a look at FormBreeze

Thomas:

This individual has recently 'visited' the Dreamweaver forum too. I'd be
curious to know his association with formbreeze....

If I had to guess, he probably gets a "fee" of some sort, Murray.
