FP2002 publish errors on new Unix host

P

Peter Judd

Hello all,
I am republishing my existing simple 8 page web to a new Unix host
with FP extensions. Publish (with or without overwrite-all-files
option) gives error message:

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Server error: '~pagename, htm' does not refer to to page of folder in
this web. It may be a page or folder in a sub web or it could be a
badly formed URL.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Huh? All pages show in Nav. structure in FP, and work from Shared
Border menus. Same as it was on old server. Tried publishing to temp
folder on local machine - all files copy and work including images
noted next .

Another prob. is a few images don't show up on the home page even
though they are properly referenced (before publishing) to image files
that exist on the server in the proper folders.

I'm stuck.

see www.lotuspashmina.com - top two images

Thanks,

Peter

I have had the same type of problem with LINUX, and it was caused by bad
permissions.
The file mentioned possibly has permission of 750 whereas is needs 755.
Try changing the permissions on the server or try deleting the file from the
server and publish again.

Peter.

Okay, seem to have it fixed (fingers crossed).

Had the site hosted on NT server before. Now ported to UNIX host with
FP extensions. Last host accepted files with names that started with
~ but this one gets confused sometimes.

Multiple un-instal, re-instal of FP extensions, tried everyting at
http://www.interlacken.com/winnt/tips/tipshow.aspx?tip=24 (Thanks Jim
Buyens) - no luck

removed all leading ~s from my file names - Shazaam! Shes-a fly,
Orville. Go figure!

Thanks all
Peter

Some UNIX systems use the ~ prefix on a folder/file name to redirect to a
User's home folder. eg ~JoePublic would redirect to a disc folder
/users/JoePublic/ which would be where Joe Public stores his files. I know
very little about UNIX so cannot elaborate on this.
