FP2002 issue with Mozilla not displaying properly

I have a problem with one page of website having lines inside a column and
distortion of another table when viewed using Mozilla even though it comes
up fine when viewed in Internet Explorer. The page was created with
Frontpage 2002 and uploaded to site using CuteFTP....I know this is not the
right way to upload a Frontpage product but it is the only way my brother
knows to do it and I do not want to make him change now. It all seems to be
working fine for him except this one page with errors when viewed with
Mozilla. Thank you for any help!

Valid HTML is that which is written in accordance with W3C standards. There is more
emphasis on standardized HTML now.

If you use Firefox (Mozilla), there's a really neat plug-in for validation.

If you don't have Firefox, this is a good reason to get it.

As mentioned by MikeR there is a standard for HTML and CSS which
defines the way each tag works and displays information. In a perfect
world all browsers would follow this standard exactly and they would
all display the same. Unfortunately, as far as I know, no browsers
follow the standard exactly although most are fairly close.
Historically the worst of the browsers has been Microsoft IE.

The best one can do is write standards compliant HTML / CSS and check
tha it displays correctly in all the major browsers. If your code is
not complient then the browser has to guess what you want with
unreliable results. Unfortunately FrontPage creates code with very
poor compliance.

I would suggest buying a book such as Head First HTML / CSS. I find
this book a little long winded but it is an excellent introduction on
writing good code.

Thank you very much for your suggestions on going about learning how to deal
with validation issues. I understand what you have said and will delve into
the topic to figure out my brother's problem with his site. I am concerned
about running one of these validation programs on his site and causing more
problems than he has now - I had read someone's comment about this happening
when they ran a validation program on their site. I will certainly take the
time to learn more about all of this and only ask for more help when I have
taken your suggestions and/or have questions about which I can be more
knowledgeable. Thank you again!

The http://validator.w3.org/ validator cannot damage your website. It
does not fix anything ... it only makes recommendations.
