FP2000: Deleted Pages from Web Show up in Search Results List

I have included a "Search" form on one of the pages in a site that has been
significantly revised, therfore many pages have changed, been deleted or
moved. The search results however gave some of the deleted pages in the
results. I used the "recalculated hyperlinks" function that is supposed to
update the search index, but it did not help. I have reviwed the information
in http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;205612
and Reset the Dependency Databases as described. Now the search facilty
lists a smaller number of results than before but now excludes many pages
that still exist and were listed before I reset the Dependency Databases.

It's a Unix server so there is no Index Catalog possible
- only the WAIS search is available
