FP03 screws up the html

  • Thread starter Thread starter Dennis

They are both supposed to show the same content. One is the real site and
another I am using as a gateway for searchengine publishing purposes. It
isn't the only site that has screwed up when I have tried to re-publish. An
other one was completely messed up and the other PC here is showing the same
thing as mine. As I mentioned originally, FP itself shows the page correctly
until I preview in browser and if I check out the source code it is all
messed up.

Forgive the following long code but I have pasted the html of the screwy top
table of the page (view source of the online page) below and then below that
is the correct code of the table as FP is showing me in code view. They are
very different.

It seems to be missing the Flash and a few cells and their formatting.

Perhaps it is the earth's magnetic field way down under here or the hole in
the ozone layer over NZ effecting our computers :) The sites are hosted in
the States

Weird. I'm seeing the same thing you are, and both sites have flash working
fine as well. I wonder if their supposed to be exactly the same content on
both.

| Ok. I have no clue why you can see the page correctly. You might try
posting to the IE newsgroup.

Yep, that's the strange thing you guys can see it fine (IE6) and mine is
screwed up in IE6. I'll check it out tonight at home in IE5 and install NN
and have a look also. I also think I'll have to take your advice and send a
post in the IE newsgroup.

Cheers

They are both supposed to show the same content. One is the real site and
another I am using as a gateway for searchengine publishing purposes. It
isn't the only site that has screwed up when I have tried to re-publish. An
other one was completely messed up and the other PC here is showing the same
thing as mine. As I mentioned originally, FP itself shows the page correctly
until I preview in browser and if I check out the source code it is all
messed up.

Forgive the following long code but I have pasted the html of the screwy top
table of the page (view source of the online page) below and then below that
is the correct code of the table as FP is showing me in code view. They are

You might try
posting to the IE newsgroup.

arg...why didn't you say you were down in NZ? It's gotta be an inverted data bit then...all those electrons spinning in the wrong direction is bound to muck things up a bit.

I'm a bit over my head on this one, but I'm curious as to what's going on.

Are you having any similar problems with pages that are NOT using japanese characters?

Well ya might have a point there Crash. I may have to calibrate windows for
this hemisphere. I think I've got a crystal lying around here somewhere that
might do the job.

I have tested the site on my home PC running Win98 (1st edition), IE5 (OS
and IE original and not patched or updated at all) and also tested on my
notebook running XP Pro, IE6 (OS and IE original and not patched or updated
at all) and the page works!

I will have a look at all IE settings between my work PC which is fully
updated and patched and the notebook and see if there is anything different.
Then contact the IE newsgroup if I can't work it out. The weird thing is
that my programmer's (Jodie) machine shows the same as mine. We both run
Norton's Internet Security 03, IIS5.1(.NET 1.1 only) but don't see how that
would make a difference.

Jodie has also had some trouble with his .NET apps not displaying properly
online when they should and maybe that is the problem also.

If I can sort it out I'll post a new thread about my findings.

Try completely disabling Norton.

We've got it! Nortons is prohibiting some of the Java and perhaps ActiveX
from running (displaying) even though the security settings (default -
medium) should allow them. The really weird thing is that the original site
is working fine with Nortons turned on. Man I hate this sort of thing
epically when I am paying for Nortons and don't need these problems taking
up precious business time.

Anyone recommend a good firewall/virus app? I don't like PC-Cillin or Zone
Alarm.

I use Sygate's firewall, I like it better than Zone Alarm.
I still use Norton for Virus and AdAware for spyware/malware/stoopidware...:-)

Thanks for that Rob. Actually funny you should mention Sygate. I downloaded
that last night for my home PC and notebook and liked the reviews it got. It
is easy to configure and set the rules for home network etc with out having
to set a fixed IP for each PC. I would prefer to pay for a complete package
that does it all but I may have to settle for the best stand alone apps for
different purposes. I just never though Nortons would actually strip html
without warning me. Jodie and me have had these problems for months now
without thinking that it was Nortons causing this problem and whenever I
have trouble he just automatically blames FP.

We humbly apologize for blaming FrontPage for all our troubles.

I still use Norton for Virus and AdAware for
spyware/malware/stoopidware...:-)

| We've got it! Nortons is prohibiting some of the Java and perhaps ActiveX
| from running (displaying) even though the security settings (default -
| medium) should allow them. The really weird thing is that the original
site
| is working fine with Nortons turned on. Man I hate this sort of thing
| epically when I am paying for Nortons and don't need these problems taking
| up precious business time.
|
| Anyone recommend a good firewall/virus app? I don't like PC-Cillin or Zone
| Alarm.
