FP Open Site

Hello,
I've not been able to open my site remotely using FP 2003. I get the
message Unavailable, password protected and possible / \ in the file. I have
the new site at http:/www.westcoastmopar.org/rporzio rporzio is where the
new files are located for test purposes, the old/existing site is in
westcoastmopar.org Is anyone else able to use FP to open the site or at
least get to the prompt for the user name and password? I am having trouble
with my hit counter and need this ability. Perhaps if someone else was able
to open it that would help me narrow the scope of the problem. Thanks, Ralph

Thanks, I've emailed my provider and they replied that extensons have been
re-installed and yet I still fail. I like that command you used to verify if
the exist, is there a list of similar commands that would be useful for users
like me who are learning these things thge very hard way?

Because they're not installed.

ok, the provider told me that they uninstalled and then reinstalled . I
tried it in FP and connected. A dialog box asked me for a user and pword, I
enterd them and the dialog box came back. I re-entered the info and the
original failure came back as file unavailable, pword protested or a / in the
path.

Your hit counter is working now.

But you have lots of image links pointing to your hardrive. How did you
Publish your website originally?...ftp? Now that you have FP
extensions...DONT use ftp to publish...use File | Publish Website..the
http:// method. FTP will break the extensions.

Your password for ftp and for the opening the web live or publishing via
http MAY be different, you need to talk to your host.

Black font on blue is nearly impossible to read.

Wow, I just went to the site and nearly passed out...That is not the way I
built it. Do you think that it needs to be reloaded? I used FileZilla to
ftp the files over to the server, I simply clicked and dragged and then
watched the progress. At first I couldn't connect to the site through FP
because of the lack of extensions, perhaps now I can. Please comment again
about how I am transferring my files, I need to do this correctly. Thanks...

Put FileZilla in a drawer somewhere and don't use it on an fp extended web.

Open FP
File | Open Web/Site - the local one on your machine
File | Publish Web/Site
now you will Publish to your remote server by entering
http://www.whateveryourwebsiteis.com .
You'll be prompted for you un/pw for http

If rporzio is a subweb/subsite you'd have to open that on your local machine
and publish it to the subsite. If it's just a folder then proceed as above.
Do a full publish, not just changed pages.

hth..

Rob,

rporzio is a folder off of the westcoastmopar.org and I'm using that for
testing purposes only until we go live with my new site. When I publish from
FP I enter http://www.westcoastmopar.org/rporzio and a dialog box tells me
that a website does not exist at that location do you want to create one?
I'm afraid to proceed because I don't want to damage the site that is now in
use at westcoastmopar.org. Help...

Make sure that your web host allows you to create subwebs / sites.

ok just to be clear. When I publish to westcoastmopar.org will I get the
choice to place all of my files into westcoastmopar.org/rporzio ? Hopefully
that will be so. Of course I haven't tried to go beyond the dialog box
telling me it doesn't exist so I don't know if my user and password will even
work. One step at a time right?

rporzio is just a folder so you don't have to do anything special just
Publish to http://www.westcoastmopar.org

because you tried to publish to rporzio, fp was thinking it was a subweb...I
think.
