fp extensions vs ftp

Laura

I publish my websites using frontpage extensions. When my son helps me with
the site, he publishes using ftp. Does that make any difference?

Steve Easton

Yes.
Unless he is publishing to a sub web, using FTP to publish to a site with extensions will
break the extensions.

Unless there's a specific reason to ftp:// to a sub web, it is best to always use the
http:// publish method.

Thank you so much for your answer. That is what I thought you would say and
now my son believes me.
Thank you again.

You're welcome.

However (and dont tell him this) you can use ftp provided you know *exactly*
what you are doing.

You have to know when FP will alter pages other than those which you
specifically updated or thought you had updated.

Altogether too much trouble. You may get away with it at times, and maybe
your son has *at times*, but it isn't worth the risk.

BTW, Steve is the expert, so rely on what he said more than me anyway.
