A colleague has FP2003 and created a web site I now need to work on - are
there any big problems in me doing this when my copy is FP2002 or do I
*really* need to buy FP2003 ?

If your colleague has not used any features that are only
available in Front Page 2003 you should be just fine.
Have a conversation with this colleague and determine
what features are in use.
