FP 2002 Photogallery nutso problem

C

Crash Gordon

Howdy all..

I've used the photogallery feature (usually the slide show) many times...but tonight I'm about ready to jump out da winder...sheesh.

I'm trying to create (duh) a photogallery with 120 photo images on one page..ok fine..no problem. But, due to the fact that I will have several other photogalleries I need to control where the big (not the thumbnails) are saved...something meaningful..like: maingallery1,,,maingallery2 etc.

No matter what I do I can't control where they go, well yes I can BUT the page gets messed up when viewed...have you ever seen an include page of the same page on itself? thats what it does. I end up with the top banner include included within the same page.

I've tried all different variations of trying to control the image file names and I've given up for the night. No, I'm not trying to rename the stupid random file name that FP assigns to the folder it creates.

What can I do?
Also Is there a limit to # of images in one gallery?

Thanks...I need a beer...bbl

If you host supports subweb, how about creating a subweb for each
photogallery and then creating the photogallery.

My server supports subs - but my brain doesn't. I find subs too confusing when publishing and admin-ing.

I wonder if my gallery problem has something to do with FP gallery size not being a controllable width??? - maybe its breaking my table? What's wierd is that the html becomes visible on the published page for the include navigation. I'm gonna try doing it without the 140p wide left nav column and see what happens.

Unless someone knows of some rule I am breaking here!...please let me know if you (anyone) knows.

Thanks!

If html from the include is visible, that's
an indication of a missing < or > for an element.
I would bet on the opening one <

Since an include only includes the html that
is between the <body></body>
tags, I would search the include page for the
html you see and check for a missing < or >

I haven't checked that yet.

I have noticed so far (and this is with no coffee in me yet) that there seems to be some kind of # of images limit..(I don't know what yet), because...

IF I create one gallery with 40 images on the top half of the page, and another gallery below that with 80 images it works fine. It's not what I want but it works.

Things I've noticed so far:
Don't mess with the folder names after creation.
Can't add more images to existing gallery, it won't create the thumbs or it forces that include include situation.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with left column nav. bar conflict or breaking the table...although with the fixed width of the gallery it works better without a left column for people with small monitors.

Can't find any documentation on this in Jim's book.

I'm almost ready to use an outside photogallery thingie, but I'm now hooked on troubleshooting this finicky thang..

First of all I think it would be a bit overwhelming for someone to find more
than about 20 thumbnails on a page. There must be a logical way for you to
break the display up into several pages. That said, I'd also suggest
something other than FP's photo gallery, which does a very weak
presentation.... you have no control of the 'page' where the larger image
appears. (It isn't really a page, just an image!) So here are some
suggestions:
http://www.eleanorstravels.com/PhotoGalleryPrograms/index.htm and here's an
earlier tutorial:

E,

I shoulda finished looking at your index before I replied. I like the looks of JAlbum, I think I'll give that a shot.

I hope it's easy to use because I just lost 90 million braincells with FP last night :)

THANKS A MILLION...

I downloaded it and played with it for a little while, then I actually had to go do some work :)

Did you let JAlbum create the album directly to FP?? Or do you import it?

Does it mess up anything in FP pages? I noticed that JA created 5 index pages into the temporary folder that I created on my 'puter.

I'm only a little confused at the moment, I'm sure I'll figure most of this out...but I have a meeting with the client at 4pm and she'll want to know what the heck I've been doing for 2 weeks :)

THANKS

Rob

| It is easy. Probably use the vertical or horizontal template. Here's the
| example page from my site:
