four users but desktop remains common

I have just upgraded from Windows Me to Windows XP Professional. I have set up four user accounts, but have a problem in that whenever one user changes the icons on their desktop, the change is carried through to everyone else's desktops. I have noticed that although everyone has their own desktop directory under C:\documents and settings, these are all empty. But there is also an 'all users' desktop directory with all the current desktop icons in it, so I am assuming that each of my user accounts is sharing this

Any idea why this is happening and how I can fix it so that if my daughter changes her dektop icons it doesn't change mine too

Many thanks

This is because XP is set up so that all the users share files in the 'All
Users' folder, which therefore means any icons on the desktop in that folder
will be shared accross all users. This is the same for the start menu
aswell. The problem with this, as you've already mentioned, is that if
someone deletes one of these, then it affects all the users.

Don't know if there's an easier way about doing this, but I just copied all
the icons from the desktop folder in the 'all users' folder into each of the
individual user desktop folders, then deleted them from the 'all users'
folder. That way everyone gets their own icons to mess about with, without
affecting everyone else.

Hope this helps,
