Hi,I can name 3 obvious reasons why the startup of your
PC may be slow.

1. If you have slow hardware (e.g. slow processor,
linited memory, low bus speed) then you are physically
straining the PC and this can make the start up process
very slow.

2. If you have a new computer and it has all whistles and
bells installed, then the start up routine may have a
whole number of programs and services that need to be
started before you can really use your PC. Some
manufacturers have been known to include hidden
partitions with backups etc.. which may have a delay
effect.

3. I have noticed that if you have multiple users logged
in simoutaneously in XP and all running processes, then
this can slow down the start up routine as well.

FYI my PC takes about 4-5 minutes also, but I think thats
ok. I am sure there are more technical answers and tips
out there.

1) Download the following item...

Adaware SE
http://www.lavasoftusa.com/

2) Disable System Restore
http://vil.nai.com/vil/SystemHelpDocs/DisableSysRestore.htm
3) Reboot your PC into Safe Mode
4) Using Adaware SE, perform a Full Scan of your platform and clean/delete
any parasites found.
5) Restart your PC and perform a "final" Full Scan of your platform using Adaware
6) Re-enable System Restore and re-apply any System Restore preferences,
(e.g. HD space to use suggested 400 ~ 600MB),
7) Reboot your PC.
8) Create a new Restore point
9) Please report back your results
