found a nice "toy" for vista - switcher

Switcher is free utility for Windows Vista (running Aero) that lets you
arrange the windows on your screen in different ways. The default view is
the "tile view," which arranges the windows so that you can see all of them,
even across multiple monitors. Another view, called the "dock view"
magnifies one window and arranges the rest along the side. There is also a
grid view, which is a good one to use if you are also going to use the
number shortcuts for the windows (the first 9 windows can be activated by
pressing the respective number on the keyboard).

Your desktop can be treated as a window, too. In this new version of
Switcher, the windows now have a customizable background color, border, and
a label which can display any of the following: the filename of the
application, window icon, the number shortcut, the memory used in megabytes,
the process name and the window title. Other new features include filters to
help you narrow down the windows that appear, the ability to close windows
during a session, smoother animations, and additional keyboard shortcuts. To
learn more about Switcher, check out Bao's Blog. To download the program,
visit the Switcher website here.

From the screenshots, it looks a bit like Expose in MacOSX. I have not
found anything as slick as that for Vista, and so much more useful than the
pointless 3D Flip.

If you have a MS mouse dl the latest Intellipoint software (v6.1) and
discover one scroll wheel click to to view all windows!
Much better and actually more useful than anything like 3d flip or that
cubie crap in linux.

I turned that off, and back to normal middle wheel behaviour, as it is still
pretty crap, and no way as good as Expose. The middle button is far too
useful these days when using IE tabs to use on that.

With Ubuntu, no need to click anything, just move the cursor to the top
right hand side of your monitor and to view all open windows. The cube
is to be able to switch from one desktop to another. If you had really
installed Ubuntu with Beryl, you would know that but being as you are
INCAPABLE of installing Ubuntu, much less Beryl, all you have left, once
again, is lies, insults and bluster.

Oh and Frank, for somebody that works in printing to not know about Macs is
pretty damn weird.

More info on Exposé :

it's pretty weird not to know that I
don't work in "printing" and don't use Macs (but my brothers does...big
time!)
Frank

"brothers does"? I guess you aren't too good at proof reading and if you
didn't have a spell checker, you couldn't write a post without every
other word being misspelled.

Then use Ubuntu.
Ubuntu newsgroups must be really dull, that you Linturds have to post in a
Vista newsgroup.
What's really great is that you people are turning far more people off of
Ubuntu than attracting new users.
And Ubuntu has big time graphics issues.
Hopefully "Licking Llama" will address them.

I use both, though Windows is still my dominant OS (not Vista...I'm still
trying to find a good reason to make the switch to that). Vista's interface
is pretty underwhelming when you consider the extra horse power required for
it, and even more so when you compare it to what the competition's brought
to the table. I couldn't care less if people are turned off, promoting
Linux isn't on my agenda. The discussion was about Vista's GUI, so I made a
comparison on how Ubuntu does something better. Just like SS mentioned
MacOS does something better. Besides, I think the only people that would be
turned off are the people completely obsessed with MS that are oblivious to
the fact that things can and should be done better.

I have never worked out why you need a silly 3D switcher at all.
All they do on my machines is show how slow the old graphics cards are.
It is much more sensible to be able to put the desktops in a grid preview
IMO.
There is far too much effort "wasted" on trimmings these days.

Actually I think the Vista view and a similar view you can set in Beryl
/ Compiz / whatever "Can" be useful once you get used to it. Nothing you
can't do really by clicking on the taskbar tabs that have always been
there but most people don't seem to even think about those :)

I think if you are used to two monitors but have to sometimes use a
machine with just one there's more likelihood of this gimmickry being
useful...

It's called spreading the good word.

Then why am I getting loads of emails about how to start using Ubuntu?
And Ubuntu has big time graphics issues.
False.

Hopefully "Licking Llama" will address them.

Hopefully, you will grow up some day.

I am grown up.
That's why I don't use Ubuntu.
It does have graphics performance issues.
The email quote of yours is unfounded.
Based on a fantasy that affects most Lintards.

If morons are emailing you about how to use Ubuntu, it proves it is not as
intuitive and user friendly as professed by the Linux pimps.

You could have fooled me by the way you post with your unfounded and
childish insults.

LOL! What does age or maturity have to do with it?
It does have graphics performance issues.

I haven't seen any on three computers that I own and on dozens of
computers that I have installed it on.
The email quote of yours is unfounded.

What quote? I didn't quote anything. I merely said I am receiving loads
of emails asking how to get Ubuntu. Live with it.
Based on a fantasy that affects most Lintards.

There you go again, with your childish insults and lies.
If morons are emailing you about how to use Ubuntu, it proves it is not

They are emailing me on how to get it. Most of them haven't a problem
with installing it and using it.

Funny that you think that Linux is a whore and those who promote it to
be pimps, being as Linux is free. I guess that's just another sign of
your "maturity" and of you being "grown up" and all.

Yeah, sure you did. I guess you had an add-in that made DOS multitask as
well..
