FOUND.0000/DIR00*.CHK folder after HD problem. What to do with them ?

About 2 days ago, I had a hard disk problem where I had bad clusters
after a CHKDISK. I thought this was fixed but upon checking my I:
partition, I found a folder named 'found.000' with 2 subfolders in it
(dir0000.chk and dir0001.chk).

The whole found.000 has 500Meg.

I did a bit of rechearch and I understand these are lost chains
converted into files. But what do I do with them ?

Does it mean that they have been moved from theire original locations
to this found.000 folder ?

I had bad clusters on my C: drive to but there are no such folders in
that partition. I have them only in my I: partition where I had bad
clusters too from the same CHKDSK session of 2 days ago. My I drive
contains mostly backups and a few games.

I don't know what to do with them.

I did a search on one file in there and didn't find it elsewhere.

Can I recover them ?
If so, how ? I don't recall where all those 500Mg files were !

You have 500 meg of basically useless information. And yes, it came from the
bad sectors/clusters. There is almost no way possible to convert these to
usable files, as much of the information may be missing or scrambled.

When I had this happen to me, before I got wise and started using drive
imaging programs (about 6 years ago), I just deleted the files. A day later
I found a few programs that would not run any longer. I replaced the drive
and started from scratch.

If it were to happen to me now, I would just replace the drive, restore my
latest image to the new drive - and be off and running again within 20
minutes.

I have a feeling that I will have to replace my drive.

What image software are available out there ?

By image software, I assume its something taking a snapshot of your
drive unto a CD and then booting with the CD to apply the image back to
the drive once it got formated by the image software. Right ?

Investigate Ghost 9 or 10 at www.symantec.com or Acronis True Image at
