My wife and I both use Outlook 2003. She has a contact I need. She
right-clicked on the contact, and selected "Forward". A Compose Mail window
appeared, with the contact as a little "card" type attachment. I duly
received the email, but the "card" has turned into a Message, and there are
no contact details to be seen. How did that happen, and how can she send me
this contact?

Thanks

Is she using rich text format for the message, rather than "let Outlook
decide..."?

I've just forwarded the contact using Plain Text, and the result is exactly
the same.......

What if she drags the contact item into a mail message window?

You might get better results if your wife exports the Contact to a VCard
file and sends that to you.

How does she do this? It works every time using Outlook 2003.

Also, if she uses Insert->Item and selects the contact item, does that work?

She should try using Rich Text.

My Outlook is set to use Plain Text, and when I forwarded a contact to
myself, it worked perfectly! So how would changing to RTF differ?

It was me that did it! Right-click on contact, select "Forward"........works
on my Outlook but not hers!
However, another suggestion in this thread was to forward as a VCard - that
has worked.

Very strange as to why the normal forward doesn't work........

Rich Text is Outlook's native format. I don't know you would be more
successful, but it costs you nothing to try. It's up to you.
