Forms on Word

Joel Why

I'm running Word '04 on my Mac, and am having a problem when I use the
Form Template I created.

It's a simple form consisting of a number of text boxes. I would like to be
able to create documents using this template, but since the text boxes are
locked, it won't allow me to format the text (i.e. Bold, Italic, etc). Is there a
way to do this?

I tried unlocking the boxes when I was in the document (not the template).
This worked, although it wouldn't allow me to click on a single word or a
piece of the text. Instead, it would automaticaly highlight the entire
body of text in that particular text box, and to make a word in italic, I had to
delete the word and retype it in italic. Then, to make matters worse, when I
click to re-lock the box, it erases all of the text in all of the text boxes, and I
can't Undo it! The only thing I could do is revert to a previously saved
version of the document. Please help!

Text boxes, being in the drawing layer, cannot be used in protected forms,
in which the drawing layer is not accessible. Use frames instead (that's why
there's an Insert Frame button on the Forms toolbar).

Are you talking about text boxes (a graphic that you put in using the insert
menu) or form text fields (inserted using the forms toolbar)? Which version
of Word?

Sorry for the delay in responding. For some reason my newsreader didn't pick
up your post until now.

Formatting part of a form field's results differently from the whole field
is very difficult. What is it, specifically you are trying to accomplish?

What you are talking about is what Word calls an "online form." Check this
in help. For more about online forms, follow the links at
http://addbalance.com/word/wordwebresources.htm#Forms or

Chapman's series of articles.

Hope this helps,
