Not to be a nitpicker, but you don't format a computer, you format a storage
device such as a floppy drive or a hard drive.
If you format your system hard drive, your operating system along with all
data on that drive (software, word processing files, etc.) will be
destroyed.
Your XP HELP program (START / Help and Support) provides formatting details.
To format your computer (i.e. erase everything) go to the
start menu and selet "run". Then type "cmd". This is
the command prompt. Once in here type "format c:"
Type "y" for "yes" and "enter" for the volume level
question.
