Formatting TOC fonts

Win XP (Home), Office 2000, Word 2003

I have a seven page work-in-process legal document
organized in to heading 1 and heading 2 topics. All
formatting is Arial. I modified Normal and heading 1
and heading 2 as Arial.

Just ran first automatic table of content run based on H1
and H2 topics, and everything looked great except for
one thing: the entire TOC is formatted as Times Roman.
It's a jarring sight when compared to Arial.

Tried to display all styles, searching for TOC 1 and TOC 2
to modify to Arial but the don't appear in Styles and
Formatting box.

How do I make TOC appear in Arial, too? TIA.

I can't tell you for Word 2000 or 2003, but for XP it works. Let's hope it
is tge same.
So, you have two options:
First - go to the TOC. Just place the cursor in it. Then choose Insert -
Reference - Index and Tables - TOC tab. Click the Modify button, choose the
TOC level. You will see the formatting of the font. Click Modify and do your
changes.

The other way is to display the styles, but in the Show tab choose Custom.
In this way Word displays all styles. There is no other way to view the TOC
style from the Styles and Formatting pane. Once all styles are displayd,
find the TOC 1, 2, 3... and mark the checkboxes. Now you will see them and
will be able to modify the settings.
