Formatting problems with new Outlook Connector for Domino

N

Nathaniel Mishkin

I just downloaded and installed the new (v2) Outlook Connector for Domino
and have had generally positive results. (I couldn't get the old version to
work hardly at all.) The one thing that's mysterious / annoying is that
even what one might think are pretty innocuously-formatted messages from
users of the standard Notes client sometimes show up with pretty funky
formatting when viewed from within Outlook 2003--e.g., with apparently
random switches (mid-paragraph or between paragraphs) of font between
something that looks like Courier and something that looks like Arial.

Any ideas?

Nat,
Can you check the following?
1. Domino Account Preference: This is a server side setting that controls
the handling of messages by Domino Server. Can you take help from your
administrator to set it at
a. No Preference (a.k.a. Keep in Sender's format)
b. MIME
and not Notes RTF
2. For mixed environments (where there are Notes Client and Outlook
Connector users), the best Domino Account Preference for everyone (including
Notes Client) is MIME. This ensures that information flows between Outlook
and Notes as somoothly as possible.
3. Always use HTML and encourage others to use HTML also. This might be a
policy decision taken by your IT Manager for Notes Client users also.

Hope that helps

I'm having the same problem. I changed the settings on the Domino server
and also on the notes client. This didn't fix this issue. Any other
suggestions?

Thanks,

Jobe,
What is the mail format that you are sending in? And what is the Account
preference that you have selected?
Thanks

Balaji,

Thanks for your response. I did a little research on this topic and I'm
concerned about the potential for "loss of information" if I go down the
path you suggest. In particular, with the present setting ("keep in
sender's format"), if someone sends me a message that contains "fancy" Notes
RTF items like buttons and scripts, I can go into the Notes client and see
them. If I switch to the "MIME" setting, it looks like those items will get
stripped from the message and there will be no way I can get them back.
I.e., ideally both the original and stripped formats would be preserved by
the Domino server and I'd be able to see the Notes RTF format from the Notes
client and the stripped format from Outlook, but it appears that things
don't work this way.

Is my understanding correct?
