Formatting CDs for Quicken File Backup

W

Ward

I've used Quicken 2001 for several years, initially with
Windows ME. I routinely used to format CDs to back up my
Quicken files successfully. Since upgrading to Windows
XP I can no longer format any CDs. Thus, when I go to
backup my files to a CD, Quicken says it can't access the
disk. Any help would be appreciated. (I won't mention
the name of the vendor who hasn't been able to help me
solve this most basic problem.)

Hi,

In WinXP, unless you are using a third party product, you and only format
CDRW's. Open Help & Support, search on 'erase'.

To back up directly from Quicken you need third party CDRW software
such as Roxio Easy CD Creator (at least V5 + upgrade) or Nero.

Alternatively you can locate all your quicken data files (make sure
you get all the files associated with your quicken "file") in My
Computer, select them and write them to CD using XP CD writing
facility

XP of itself has no support for this 'packet writing' mode on CD-RW
(even though it provides a drag and drop way to set up the burning of
files in batches). You need a similar packet writing program to the one
you used in ME - in an XP Compatible version. InCD with Nero (ver 5.5
or later) Direct CD/Drag To Disk with Easy CD Creator (ver 5 or later -
if you had Easy CD 4 version with the old Direct CD in ME do *not* try
to use it in XP) or DLA from Sonic
