How in the world do I format this disk before using it for
my backup? I have tried to follow microsoft directions in
the help file, they say to to highlight the drive where
I'd be formatting the disk, then to file, then format.
But, format is not listed under file. Please help. This
seems like it would be so simple to do.

You need the software (third party) that has that ability.
Windows does not directly support writing to a cd, nor can
you (using windows) make a backup directly to a cd.
You have to make a backup, direct it to a place on your hd
and then using a cdburning software burn the file to cd.
You don't mention what kind of cdburner you have, nor what
kind of burning software, both are necessary for this
procedure.

I believe you can if you mount the cd in an NTFS folder. Create a folder for
the backup then go into Disk Management and right click on the cd drive and
choose "Change Drive Letter and Path" then click "Add" and choose "Mount in
this NTFS folder" then browse to the folder created earlier. Direct your
backups to this folder and they will burn to cd.

To clarify, the solution I posted for direct backup to cd does require a 3rd
party packet writer to be running (DirectCD).

Interesting, this is nifty, thanks!

.

Since I have that program, I assumed you had it also, or
something similar, and read between the lines to figure
you had to have something like that
