Formatted drive, can't get XP to install

I recently formatted and repartitioned my C: drive. When I try to reinstall
XP, it goes to the screen of "Setup is confirming your hardware
configuration" and just goes black. It will not leave the screen, nor does it
respond to setting the CD-ROM to boot up. I've tried everything I know.
Please help.

Did you use a third party utility to format and partition?
Why not use the winxp cd to partition and format?

Presumably winxp was running on this sys prior to your cleaning it up?
If you were experiencing problems then, what were they?

I reformated it just because, there were no problems, I was just trying to
clear space on my computer.

the disconnect everything except one stick of ram approach didn't work. and
as for the website, I really didn't see any information to help install XP
onto a system with the problems I'm having... I still get the blackish grey
screen after "Setup is confirming your hardware configuration"

Try removing all extra cards on motherboard like sound - modem and usb
devices except graphic card. Then try again and see if it works.

I had a similar problem.
Used laptop seemed to work.
But when I tried to reload it, it failed.
Turned out to be a bad hard drive...as determined by the vendor drive
check utility.
New drive fixed it.
Try running a disk drive test. Hitachi Drive Fitness Test works on many
different vendor's drives...but I'd download the one for the correct
drive vendor if you can.

It was only showing you the correct method of installing Winxp - in case you
did'nt know -
If this approach didnt work you have a hardware problem.
ie memory, mobo, hd
