Formating cells

I have a customer that is having problems with formating
cells in Excel 2000. He is working on a large spreadsheet
that was created in Excel 2002. When he tries to format
any of the cells nothing happens. it is happening on
several workbooks. He right clicks on the cells and clicks
on Format cells and nothing happens. We are able to find a
work around by inserting a new column next to the data,
copying the data over into the new cells then we have the
ability to format the cells. Does anyone have any ideas as
to why this is happening?
 
I think I just had a similar problem and now it's fixed. This is what
information I
was given...

To fix your problem

1. Open the spreadsheet you're have problems with

2. Highlight the cells you want to change

3. Go to the Menu bar <Tools/Options/View>

4. Uncheck Formulas.
