formating basic drive

running 2k professional on dell dimension 550r. unstable operation so trying to format (c) drive. have removed all programs but unable format "windows can not format this drive. quit any disk utikities or other.... no window is displaying contents..." task table is blank. help. tks

If yr trying to Format the win partition, within win you cannot.
Use the win2k disk to bootup, you may have to enable boot from cd in yr
bios, and format using this.
Having said that ensure that you have all the app disks required to
reinstall, prior to undertaking any format, and also that all data is backed
up as you will destroy ALL
