I have two H.D's and have my XP on disk D. I wanted to format C and ran first
de-mount and the FORMAT without any error indications. When I retasrt, I have
just the same on C as I had before I formatted!
Any help?

The last time I formatted a drive I did it from within administrative
tools/computer management/disk management.
right clicked the drive and chose the format option.XP will not let you format
the drive where it resides.Do you have the MBR on C or D??
worked great...................how did you attempt your format??
