Guys... not trying to 'cheat' at anything here. I purchased perfectly
legal new version of XP to load, but simply can't get past the fact
that the Admin issue does not allow me to load software or even get
past the recovery consule (BIOS).

Sorry about that.
If it's a BIOS password it will ask for the password before Windows starts
to load and you will have to enter your BIOS to clear it. This is usually
done by removing the "watch battery" on the motherboard for several minutes.
Otherwise you will probably have to get information from the people from
whom you purchased the computer.

Michael,

It was easy to remove the RTC, but it did not remove teh ADMIN
password. I have followed the Compaq manual which is simply F10 to
get to the BIOS, but it puts me in the Recovery Mode. I am at my
wits end and think it's worth $60 to replace the Hard Drive. I
assume the ADMIN stuff will go away at that point?

It's not worth $60 to drive myself crazy over this...
thoughts?????????

Did you see this part?
Using Computer Setup

? To change the language, press F2.

? To view navigation information, press F1.

? To return to the Computer Setup menu, press esc.

2. Select the File, Security, or Advanced menu.

3. To close Computer Setup and restart the notebook:

? Select File > Save Changes and Exit and press enter.

or

? Select File > Ignore Changes and Exit and press enter.

4. When you are prompted to confirm your action, press F10.

Michael,

When I use F10 on startup I get a window that asked for which OS I
want:

- Windows XP Pro
- Windows Revovery Console

These are the choices. When I press F8 I go to a larger menu called:

ADVANCED OPTIONS MENU

The choices do not include what you mention above. They are:

Safe Mode w/ command promt
Safe Mode w/ networking

Enable boot Logging
Last Known config

Start Window Normally
Reboot
Return to OS choices

If I choose any of this I go back to that advanced page where the
choices are XP or Recovery Consule.

Was in the eye of Hurricane Wilma so it's taken me a few days to get
online and power, but what you described I can't seem to duplicate.

Did you select Windows XP or Recovery Console or neither?
