HI,

I am not actually a new user, but I have never had to do this cahnge.
I am trying install SP3 on my Toshiba QOSMO laptop and part way through the
install it asks for Admin privliges which I thought I had as being the only
user for this computer.
I have tried to find a way to log-in as Admin, like through safe mode, but
this will not connect via my wireless (drivers not installing), or reading my
USB flash-stick.

All my other XP-SP2 computers upgraded nicely (3 of them), but the Toshiba
is being difficult.

Any ideas please

Regards

Kevin.

Although I can't be sure from your description, it sounds as though you only
have one admin account on that system, that being the built-in admin account.
I'm not sure how you got to that point, but you should probably correct the
situation.

I suggest that you log in under that built-in admin account in Safe Mode. Go
into the User Accounts applet of the Control Panel and look at your list of
users. If you see another regular admin account, then log on to it and use it
for the application of SP3.

If you do NOT see a regular admin account, you can create one at this point.
Then log on to the new admin account and perform the upgrad.

Actually you can also log on at the regular logon prompt with the built-in
admin account. Depending on how you have your system set up (Using welcome
screen?) you might do this by hitting the Ctrl-Alt-Del key combination twice.
But I don't advise this.

I'd like to encourage you to make use of a DIFFERENT admin account than the
built-in one for normal administrative routines on your systems. It is a good
idea, also, to have all user accounts (with possible exception of the Guest
account) protected by strong passwords. And, of course, use a standard
(non-admin) account for normal operations -- if at all possible.
