format hard drive on XP

I have a Dell computer and when I put the recovery cd in it tells me that
the version
on the computer is newer than what is on the cd. Can anyone help me Please.

You must have installed SP2 on your system. Go to Add/Remove Programs in
Control Panel, scroll the list to Windows XP Service Pack 2, select it and
remove it. Then you should be able to use your recovery CD.

Thank you for help, I was told that you can not remove SP2 from system.We
will give it a try though Thanks.

It's telling you that the version of XP on the computer is newer than the
one on the CD; it's that simple. If that CD is all you have for XP, then
that's all you have to work with. If it's a new purchase, go back and talk
to whre you bought it. If not, you'l have to use the CD as it is.
Something tells me there is pirated software somewhere there; be careful if
you're the one did the pirating: MS can tell now when you go for updates.

You're welcome. If SP2 was integrated into the version of Windows installed
on your system as opposed to you having added it later, then, it cannot be
removed. However, by virtue of your initial post, your install CD would
seem not to include, therefore, you should be able to remove it from your
setup.
