In "my computer" when I right click CD drive there is no
opiton to "format disc" lately. How can I correct this.
I want to format my disc so I can use it in other pc's
Thank you

Greetings

There is no need to format a CD for writing. Only third party software like
DirectCD and InCD require formatting. A CD comes ready to write.

You don't format cds unless your using a packet writing program, in which
case the program will format the cd for you. Otherwise for data cds and
music cds you just burn the files to it, no need to format it.

You've never had that option, XP does not support packet writing, you need 3rd party software to format a CD.

You can't. CDR's are only "formatted" when you wish to use them for
packet-writing (read: use it like a big floppy disk). XP doesn't
provide native support for packet-writing, hence the reason you don't
see this option.

Packet-writing is buggy and when it screws up you'll have an entire
CDR of stuff that you can't access and will have to throw away. If
you want to use it anyway, then you will have to go out and by
something like Roxio or Nero.

You should not do packet writing on cd-r's only on cd-rw's. On cd-r's since
they are not erasable/rewritable when you move/delete data from the cd-r it
really doesn't go anywhere. Eventually the cd-r gets filled up and many
times goes bad. With a cd-rw the data you "deleted" allows you to re-write
over it, just like your hard drive does when you delete files. If your using
cd-r's with packet writing then that's why your having probs, cause I have
had very few probs with packet writing using adaptec/roxio.

I won't argue that many people use packet writing with no problem.
Use it long enough, though, and it will fail. When that happens it
won't matter what media you are using - CDR or CDRW - you'll lose all
the files on it.
