format c: /u -ie wipe HD clean but for XP

I desire to wipe my HD. I have tried doing this from the
XP cd but all it does is copy over itself leaving all
programs, data, and other junk on HD. How do you wipe the
HD clean from the XP cd?
 
Change your bios to boot from the XP cd and then you can format and install.
 
Thanks but I tried that...also tried using a win98
startup disc from the A: would not release the drive....

Figure out what's locking the drive. Any settings enabled in BIOS that
could be protecting the drive?
 
If the drive is formatted NTFS a W98 boot disk won't read
the disk. But if you have FDISK on the W98 disk you should
be able to repartition the disk.
