I have winxp pro on my c drive. My HD is 80 gig and partitioned c, d, e.
Made partitions from winxp pro. I am having some troubles with winxp pro and
want to do some spring cleaning, ie, reformat c drive and reinstall xp pro.
How do I reformat c:\ ? Dont want to erase d:\ and e:\ . I put a win98
startup disk in and rebooted, but my winxp restarted. Can't see how to get
to A:\ drive or how to reformat.
Thanks

You need to install xp cd,restart computer, boot to xp cd,at info scree
select,install xp,then select new copy.In this mode,you get the selection t
delete xp,then it automatically formats the hd (C: only),then installs xp.Or if you wan
selections,at info screen choose recovery, press enter key for password,at cmd screen type
DiskPart the new screen lets you delete any partitions, delete C: Then esc or type:EXI
back in orig screen, type:FORMAT C: /FS:ntfs when its thru type:EXIT auto reboots
reboot to xp cd,select, install xp.Just another way to do it.

Ralf, just set your Cdrom as first boot device in Bios. Then insert the
WinXP CD and boot from it.
Follow the instructions and choose new install not upgrade. Also
Advanced Option will let you choose
which partition to install in and keep the rest.

You're trying too hard. Simply boot to the Windows XP CD. It will
run the setup program, which includes a menu-driven system to
create/delete and format partitions. That's all you should need.
