Depends on your version of PowerPoint. In 2002/2003, rather than Cut and
Paste, I would open both presentations in the file sorter view, arrange them
side by side, right click the slide you want to import, drag from one
presentation to the other and select either to copy or move the slide, and
to maintain original format.
every time you paste a cut from one file to another, you will see a
small icon on the right bottom of the post region, it just like a
portfolio, click it, choose 'keep source formating'.

What if you have version 2007 and you can pull up the 2 different folders to do the cut and copy?
(It got buried in the various levels of quoted text.)
Anyway, the answer to that is yes. Just open both files. To show them side
by side, use the View tab and choose Arrange All.
