Formal Style sheet looks ugly on pre 2007 Word versions

I use the Formal Style sheet on Word 2007, with Alphabet Headers and Footers.

The lettering and header/footer bar is a deep red.

I save it in Compatible mode.

When the document is viewed by a pre-2007 version of Word, the lettering,
header and footer bars are neon yellow.

How can I stop this, without removing the style sheet?

Hi Pete,

I'm not able to reproduce this when opening a Word 2007 document saved as Word 97-2003 then opened on a different computer in either
Word 2000 or in Word 2003, even when reducing the screen settings to 256 colors.

Are the 'high contrast' settings in Windows Control Panel, Accessibility, turned on by any chance?
